Notre Dame Wedding

The University of Notre Dame is one of the best places for a wedding. I might be biased since it’s in my hometown, but a couple of weeks ago I was so excited to head there for Alex and Johnny’s wedding. I could write endlessly about the beautiful campus, or how amazing Alex and Jonny are, but I think the photos make all of that abundantly clear.

We kicked off the day with a stunning ceremony. Wedding ceremonies for a Notre Dame wedding are held in the utterly breathtaking Basilica, a Roman Catholic church that was constructed in the late 1800s. It’s adorned with 44 stunning stained glass windows and covered in masterpiece murals that were painted throughout 17 years!

When the ceremony concluded, the wedding party ventured out to the beautiful grounds of the campus. I had planned and brought some additional lighting equipment, and with a little finesse and magic was able to capture the golden dome, the bride and groom and the wedding party perfectly. I couldn’t be more happy with how these photos turned out!

When we were done taking photos in front of the dome, which I honestly could have done all day because of how fun it was, we went inside the stadium for more! The locker room gave us the opportunity for one of the most personalized and unique groomsmen photos I’ve ever taken. It turns out there are perks of being a former athlete!

We wrapped up our campus shoot with a wonderfully intimate set of photos at the reflecting pool. It was such a fun way to put the close focus back on Alex and Johnny without giving up all of the beautiful color and architecture of the Notre Dame campus. They were a lovely couple, and their love was so easy to see in every photo.

Then, with portraits complete, we headed to the reception inside the Morris Inn. The Morris Inn is elegant and classy, the perfect place to celebrate the beautiful day that precluded the reception. Everything was perfect from start to finish. The brilliant speeches were met with laughs and tears, dinner was phenomenal all around, and once everyone had their fill the dancing began!

Things got a little wild on the dance floor, which tends to happen with Notre Dame weddings! It’s also what makes photographing the dance floor so much fun. There are few things more rewarding than capturing the moments of pure joy that happen at the climax of such a perfect wedding – provided I don’t slip on any spilled champagne in the process!

At the end of the night, after hours of fun and celebration, Alex and Johnny were sent surrounded by their friends and family in a glowing aisle of sparklers. I had an incredible amount of fun photographing the ceremony inside the Basilica, couldn’t be more happy with portraits around campus, and of course had a blast on the dance floor, but sparkler sendoffs will always be my favorite moment to capture.  They are beautiful and full of energy while perfectly symbolizing the glowing love and well-wishes that will light up the lives of the newlyweds. It is a truly perfect way to end such a joyous celebration with family and friends.

Thank you for taking the time to look at this Notre Dame Wedding!
