welcome to surety hotel
Surety Hotel is a beautiful new hotel, event and wedding venue space located in downtown Des Moines. This hotel has a luxurious modern aesthetic that is sure to wow your wedding guests as they arrive. The hotel is equipped with several meeting rooms, the Surety Ballroom, a stunning solarium attached to their courtyard as well as a restaurant in house, Mulberry Street Tavern. This hotel has quickly become one of my favorite Des Moines wedding venues. Their staff is beyond incredible and goes out of their way to make sure that everyone that steps foot in their space has a memorable experience.

my thoughts
As a Des Moines wedding photographer myself, I’ve seen hundreds of wedding venues throughout the country and I can’t shout the praises of Surety Hotel’s space enough! The solarium is an absolute show stopper, so beautiful! Surety’s suites and rehearsal dinner spaces are also unreal. I think it’s pretty easy to walk into Surety in downtown Des Moines and realize there’s no venue with such a great vibe in the area. What is a little harder to tell when searching for the perfect venue online, is customer service side of things. Surety’s staff has been AMAZING from start to finish. Tara has worked tirelessly with us to make sure that our day is perfect. Chef Marque and JC have made unique to us cocktails and menu items that speak to specific things we love. Everyone knows us by name, goes out of their way to greet us whenever we stop in for dinner at Mulberry Street Tavern and genuinely makes us feel like a part of their family. Having the right vibe from your wedding vendors is crucial to the day, and this is absolutely Surety’s biggest strength. Give Tara a call and schedule a walk through, you’ll see what I mean!
FAQ
A few of the most asked questions about planning a wedding at Surety Hotel
Surety does a phenomenal job at listening to each couple and exactly what is important for them. You’re able to book the hotel for just a rehearsal dinner or you can book the hotel for rehearsal, ceremony, reception and morning brunch. You’re able to book for 10 people up to a couple hundred. Because of this, I would say your best bet is to schedule a meeting with their event coordinator and they can lay out all of your options!
Surety Hotel has a stunning Marchande suite that is perfect for getting ready with large groups. The top floor city views are incredible and there is 950 sq ft to spread out in. In addition to this suite, there are corner suites that would work perfectly as well, with beautiful light pouring in the tall windows during getting ready hours!
This is all up to what works best for you and your soon to be spouse, but with venues that offer you the ability to do everything under one roof, I like to start with the first look and portraits of the couple, then portraits of the wedding party, then family formals all before the ceremony. Allow for some time to freshen up before the ceremony. Then you are able to go straight from being announced married right into cocktail hour with your guests without having any other photo obligations!
Planning for the ceremony start time at Surety Hotel can be somewhat important. Their solarium space is an absolute stunning backdrop for you wedding ceremony and the space let’s beautiful light in throughout the day. I would say scheduling the ceremony to start about 1 hour before sunset would be ideal! This would even leave a few minutes for sunset photos during the beginning of cocktail hour if you’d like to run outside with me!
Between the lobby, solarium, courtyard and Mulberry Street Tavern, there are so many opportunities for beautiful portraits within the venue. BUT, Surety Hotel is located in the heart of Des Moines and there are so many fun cityscapes within walking distance. If you have the time, go for it! Bonus, my studio is two blogs from Surety Hotel, which would make for a great unique portrait part to your wedding day!
