04 engagement photo locations in des moines

Tabbi and Ethan

From the moment we met at the Des Moines Wedding Show, Tabbi and I hit it off. She introduced me to her fiancé, Ethan, when we met for a cocktail at Juniper Moon. This was a great opportunity to chat and learn more about them before their engagement session.

I loved that Tabbi and Ethan gave me the freedom to plan the locations for their engagement session in Des Moines. When couples ask me to plan their session, I choose a starting point and walk around the neighborhood with them looking for the best light and good compositions. This freedom allows me to be the most creative and keeps me on my toes. When I only have one backdrop, I don’t necessarily have optimal lighting for the best photos possible.

We started downtown and found a good spot with vibrant colors and unique architecture. Over the course of an hour and a half, we walked about three blocks while frequently referencing hip-hop song lyrics. Hanging out with Tabbi and Ethan was a blast!

As we were walking, we stumbled across awesome stairs that had harsh lighting and a cement wall. After an outfit change, these stairs were the perfect place to snap some great photos. This spot was where we spent the majority of our time.

After the session we went to Bubba and grabbed dinner. Enjoying a meal together after a great session is always a good way to end the day. I can’t wait for Tabbi and Ethan’s wedding this November at the Tea Room, one of my favorite Des Moines wedding venues!
